About Lurleen Worthington

I was born and raised in Berks County, PA, on a 140-acre dairy farm, where I developed a strong work ethic from an early age. I attended Conestoga Christian School and graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School. Driven by a passion for healthcare, I pursued a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University. Upon graduation, I remained in Philadelphia, working at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH) in the kidney/liver transplant and cardiothoracic intensive care units.
During my tenure at TJUH, I took on leadership roles, serving on multiple committees, including as Chair of the Resource Coordination Committee and Co-Chair of the Quality Assurance Committee. My interest in pharmaceutical research led me to transition from bedside nursing to a role at Covance, Inc. as a Clinical Research Associate, managing and monitoring Phase II clinical drug trials. I also embraced an opportunity to contribute to education, serving as Adjunct Faculty at La Salle University, where I co-taught the course "Concepts of Pharmaceutical Development and Operations."
In December 1996, I married Chance Worthington and moved to Bucks County, settling in Plumstead Township. We own a fourth-generation family construction business dedicated to preserving the history, character, and charm of Bucks County. Our company, a proud member of the Heritage Conservancy and a corporate business partner of the Michener Art Museum, specializes in custom homes, renovations, and historical restorations.
My husband and I raised our two children, now 24 and 23, in the same home where we continue to live. Our children attended local schools in the Central Bucks School District and Plumstead Christian School. When our children were young, I stepped away from full-time employment to become deeply involved in my community. I dedicated significant time to serving at Doylestown Presbyterian Church, where I held the position of Elder/Clerk of Session. I also chaired and managed the budget for the Children’s Christian Education Committee and served as Sunday School Superintendent, organizing Vacation Bible School and the weekly Club 456 program.
My commitment to education extended into my children’s academic journey, where I was an active member of the Parent-Teacher Organization and a longtime homeroom mom. Currently, I continue my church involvement at Covenant Church, teaching third-grade Sunday School and leading a women’s Bible study for over 35 participants. Beyond my church commitments, I am actively engaged in township affairs, serving as Vice Chair of the Plumstead GOP Club and as a member of the Plumstead Township Environmental Advisory Council.
I am running for supervisor because I know and love our Township and its balance of suburban and rural/farm community values. As a Plumstead resident for over 28 years and an actively engaged community member, I deeply understand what makes Plumstead Township a special place to live and raise a family. With dedication and experience, I am prepared and eager to serve my community as Township Supervisor.

Whenever I am asked about myself, I always respond with this sentence - I'm a Marine, a Vietnam veteran, and I am proud to have served my country.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. I attended Philadelphia public schools and graduated in the top 5% of my class from Frankford High School. Four days after graduation, I joined the Marine Corps and entered basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina.
I served four years in the Marine Corps with fifteen months overseas which included one tour of duty in Vietnam. My military occupational specialties were Radio Operator and Communications Center Operator. In both Radio Operator School and Communications Center Operator schools, I finished first in my class and earned meritorious promotions. In fact, all my promotions in the Marine Corps were meritorious. During my service in the Marine Corps, I had a Top Secret security clearance.
Upon release from active duty, I had attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5). I attended Lyons Technical Institute in Philadelphia where I studied Electronics Technology. I graduated with an Associate in Specialized Technology Degree and secured a job with American Electronic Laboratories (AEL) in Colmar, PA.
My working career continued for the next 38 years at subsequent companies Aydin Vector Division, L-3 Communications, and Exelis Inc. I started out as an Inspector and progressed through the ranks of Electronics Technician, Engineer, Project Engineer, Engineering Supervisor, Marketing Manager, Director of Sales, Director of Business Development Operations and finally Senior Program Manager. My last company, Exelis, transferred all operations from Warminster, PA to North Amityville, NY. I worked several months at the NY facility but declined their offer to relocate. I then entered early retirement.
During retirement, I did briefly work at Metaphase Technologies and Microwave Innovations as a part time consultant.
In 2019, I ran for the office of Plumstead Township Supervisor and was elected.
I was sworn in January, 2020.
During my employment, I attended LaSalle University at night for thirteen years and earned a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Physics and a Master of Business Administration degree. For the Bachelor’s degree, I was on the Dean’s List all eligible semesters and graduated Cum Laude with a 3.5 GPA. Graduate school did not have a Dean’s List but I did graduate with a 3.77 GPA.
Since being elected, I have graduated from the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors Municipal Government Academy. I have also accumulated over 200 hours of online education in Public Administration, Public Safety, Public Works, and Planning/Zoning.
I have been active with local Veterans Service Organizations, i.e., Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Marine Corps League, and Vietnam Veterans of America since 2004. I have held leadership positions in each organization. I am currently the Chair of the Plumstead Township Veterans Committee.
Remembering those veterans who have lost their lives serving our country is of paramount importance to me. I put together a book on the 136 Bucks County men who lost their lives in Vietnam. The book is called More Than Names on a Wall. I have also spearheaded the efforts to dedicate Plumstead bridges for our residents who lost their lives serving our country.
My wife Sophie and I have been married for 46 years. We have been Bucks County residents since 1980 and Plumstead residents since 1997. My daughter and her husband reside in New Britain, PA.
